I had the words. I handed the rest to AI. It rendered the cover, set the paywall, locked in the paid-only audience, and committed proof to git before I ever opened the Substack editor.

I hate the gap between "article is written" and "article is ready."

The writing part is work. But it is the kind of work I actually want to do. I sit down, I tell a story, I get it to a place I like.

Then comes the part I do not like.

Cover image. Right size or it gets cropped weird. Paid-only setting. Easy to miss. Paywall placement. Not too high, not too low. Buttons. Substack wants them in a specific format. Audience. Make sure free readers do not get the whole thing. Email setting. Has to be off or the whole list gets pinged the second it goes live.

Every one of those is a small thing. Together they take longer than I want them to. And I have made each one of those mistakes at least once.

So I built a route for it.

My AI now takes a finished draft and runs it through a validation checklist before the Substack draft even exists. It checks the body. It renders a 1456x816 cover. It confirms the paywall is in the right place. It checks the buttons. It locks the audience to paid only. It forces send to false. Then it commits a proof file to git so I can see what ran and what passed.

When the route finishes, there is a staged Substack draft waiting for me to review. Not a live post. Not an email blast. A review draft with proof I can read.

That is the setup I am going to walk you through.

The writing is my job. Everything after the last period is bitchwork.

What this article gives you

I am going to show you the exact route I built to take a finished draft all the way to a staged Substack paid post. You will see what I handed to AI, what it validated, how the cover gets made, where the proof lives, and what still needs a human before anything goes live.

Who this is for

You write your Substack posts but spend more time fiddling in the editor than you should.
You have accidentally sent an email blast before a post was ready.
You have forgotten to set a post to paid-only and given it away for free.
You are not technical but you want your publishing workflow to stop depending on you remembering a checklist.
You want to understand how a staged draft is different from a live post.

If that is you, keep reading.

Why you can trust this story

I run Liz on the Web at 241K followers. I also run PRISM, AutoviralApp, UPRISE, and Profounder. All of them create Substack content. All of them now run through this same route.

The proof file I am referencing in this article is real. It is committed to git. The filename is 2026-07-02-ope-part-11-instagram-money-map-draft-proof.json. It sits in content-system/substack/generated/. You can read it. It has a timestamp. It has a validation result. It does not claim the post went live because it did not. It staged a review draft.

That is all this route does. Stage. Validate. Prove. Nothing publishes without me.

I am not selling a tool. There is no paid tool here. I am giving you the prompts and the workflow in plain language.

Behind this paywall

Paid readers get:

The exact handoff prompt I gave my AI to start the route.

What the proof file actually looks like and how to read it.
What AI cannot do in this route and what still needs me.
What to check manually before clicking publish.
A copy-this recap you can use as a template.
