This is a Genius B\*tchwork post. That means the win this week is not mine. Someone else found a genius use for AI, I tracked it down, and now I am handing you the exact steps so you can copy it.
I did not have a pile of school sports schedules to sort out. This parent did. And what they got out of ChatGPT is the kind of thing that makes every other parent in the carpool line say "wait, you can do that?"
Here is what happened.
A parent posted in a Reddit thread asking people about the weirdest specific tasks they use ChatGPT for. Their answer: at the start of the school year they had two kids, two teams, and a bunch of athletic calendar screenshots. Separate schedules. Different sports. All that information sitting in photos on their phone.
They uploaded the screenshots to ChatGPT and asked it to sort out the mess.
ChatGPT read the images. It built a color-coded one-pager with both kids' events listed side by side. Then it made an import file with 26 events, ready to drop straight into Google Calendar.
Screenshots in. Organized, importable calendar out.
And here is the thing nobody tells you at school pickup. You do not have to hand-enter 26 events into a calendar one by one. AI can read the screenshots and do it for you.
What building the family calendar the old way costs you
Most school sports schedules arrive as a PDF email, a paper handout, or a photo someone took of the gym whiteboard. If you are lucky they line up neatly in a grid. Often they do not.
If you have more than one kid or more than one activity, you sit down sometime in late August and type it all in yourself. You open your calendar app. You click on the first date. You type in "Soccer practice, 4 PM, Riverside Field." Then you do it again for the next date. And the next.
Twenty-six times.
Then you find out the schedule had a typo. Or the times changed. Or you misread a 6 as an 8. Or you forgot the away games are on a different sheet.
An hour of your time gone. Errors still sitting in your calendar. Your kid still asking you when the next game is.
What you get in this one
This article walks through the exact steps to go from sports schedule screenshots to a real, importable calendar.
By the end you will have:
The right way to prepare your screenshots before uploading them.
Example prompts to get the color-coded one-pager out of ChatGPT.
Example prompts to get the import file with all your events.
The step you cannot skip before you import, so you do not end up with wrong dates.
How to get everything into Google Calendar in about 30 seconds.
You do not need to know how to code. You do not need to know what an import file is. That is the whole point.
Quick and honest note before we start
The original story comes from a comment by u/redqtp2t in r/ChatGPT on Reddit, August 2026. I am not the parent who did this. I did not use their exact prompts because they did not share them. The prompts below are examples based on the method they described.
The big caveat: AI misreads dates and times from photos. Before you trust this calendar for anything that matters, go through the events and check them against the original schedule. One wrong date can mean a kid standing at the wrong field at the wrong time.
