This is a Genius B\*tchwork post.
Most weeks I show you the boring work my own AI did for me. This time I want to show you something genius that AI did for someone else. A real person, a real classroom, a real fix. Then I am going to hand you the exact steps so you can copy it.
I am not a teacher. I did not have this problem. But a teacher named u/menerell on Reddit did, and what they did in that moment is the kind of thing that makes you go "oh, that is it."
Here is what happened.
A teacher walked into class. The listening test was on the schedule. The questions were printed and ready. The audio file was not. Gone. Missing. However it happened, the recording was not there.
Old move: cancel the test, reschedule the class, deal with the mess.
New move: open ChatGPT, paste in the test questions, and ask it to write a passage that matched them. The test happened. On time. No rescheduling. No chaos.
That is it. That is the whole story.
A short text, written in about a minute, saved an entire class session. The teacher shared it in a May 2026 Reddit thread in r/ChatGPT about small AI use cases that genuinely helped people. (Link at the bottom.)
What canceling a class costs you
If you have ever had to cancel a class or a session last minute, you know what that day looks like.
You scramble. You send emails. Students are annoyed. You have to reschedule in an already packed calendar. You lose the momentum you built. Sometimes it messes up a whole unit sequence.
And it is all because one file was in the wrong folder. Or the website went down. Or the link expired.
AI does not fix the missing file. But it can build you a replacement fast enough to keep going. That is the whole trick.
What you get in this one
I broke down the teacher's method so anyone can use it. By the end of this post you will have:
The copy-paste prompt to build a listening passage from your existing questions.
How to check it before you use it with students.
The prompt to adjust the reading level fast.
The backup move if you want to turn it into audio.
The things AI cannot do here, so you stay honest.
You do not need to be tech-savvy. You just need your questions and ChatGPT.
Quick and honest note before we start
This fix is only for situations where creating a comparable passage is appropriate and allowed. Before you use anything AI writes with students, read it yourself. Check it for accuracy, check the level, and check it against your school's policy. Some schools require disclosure when AI-generated material is used in assessments. Follow your school's rules. The teacher who shared this did not give their exact prompt or policy details. What you see in the paid section is an example method based on what they described, not a copy of their exact words.
Behind the paywall, you get the full how-to:
The 4 steps in order, start to finish.
All 3 copy-paste example prompts, ready to use.
How to check the passage matches the questions before you hand anything out.
The prompt to adjust reading level up or down.
What AI cannot do, and the mistakes to avoid.
A steal-this recap you can screenshot.
Subscribing unlocks the rest of this exact post right now, not just future ones. If you teach or train people and you ever lose a resource at the last second, this is the post that saves your class.
